A Hero and the Holocaust: The Story of Janusz Korczak and His Children

Picture
David A. Adler, 2002. This beautiful story depicts the life of a doctor who ran an orphanage for Jewish children in the years leading up to and into the Holocaust.  Korczak gained fame as an author and a respected authority on raising children.  When he and his "children" were forced first into a Jewish ghetto in Poland, and later onto a train to the concentration camp Treblinka, he did so with dignity and honor.  Be prepared for a touching ending!
